                  Step 1 - Preliminary evaluation

Before you start to demolish - carry out this check list
  • Check to "O" rings in the shower tap assemblies.

  • Check that the tap spindle assembly/body washer is not leaking into the wall.

  • Pressure test the shower breaching piece assembly. (Pressurised only when the
    shower is on)

  • Make sure the tap flanges on the wall tiles are properly sealed.

  • Check the condition of the silicone sealant around the shower screen frame.

  • Ensure grouted joints on the hob edge and wall tiles are not missing or cracked.

  • Make sure the children havn't been filling the shower area like a bath. (Common occurrence)

  • Make sure the drainage connections are still in good working order.

  • Tape over the drain outlet with good quality PVC tape and flood test the base of the shower with water to a depth no greater than 40 millimetres

  • Remove the tape immediately if water appears in areas outside the shower cubicle.
If the check list 1 to 8 passes, then it is usually a failed waterproofing system.
