Before you start to demolish - carry out this check list
- Check to "O" rings in the shower tap assemblies.
- Check that the tap spindle assembly/body washer is not leaking into the wall.
- Pressure test the shower breaching piece assembly. (Pressurised only when the
shower is on)
- Make sure the tap flanges on the wall tiles are properly sealed.
- Check the condition of the silicone sealant around the shower screen frame.
- Ensure grouted joints on the hob edge and wall tiles are not missing or cracked.
- Make sure the children havn't been filling the shower area like a bath. (Common occurrence)
- Make sure the drainage connections are still in good working order.
- Tape over the drain outlet with good quality PVC tape and flood test the base of the shower with water to a depth no greater than 40 millimetres
- Remove the tape immediately if water appears in areas outside the shower cubicle.
If the check list 1 to 8 passes, then it is usually a failed waterproofing system.
